Abstract

This article studies the relationship between two literary figures (the author-creator on the one hand and the translator on the other) in Amadou Hampâté Bâ’s and Ahmadou Kourouma’s narratives. The comparison between these two writers reveals some of the transformations the French and Francophone literary field has undergone since the 1970s. While Hampâté Bâ (1900-1991) saw himself both as the translator of pre-existing oral texts and as an interpreter helping two radically different cultural universes to get to know each other, Kourouma (1927-2003) tried to create more complex linguistic identities. The confrontation of these two models is one of the consequences of the emergence of the postcolonial moment.

  • Nicolas Di Méo
    Nicolas Di Méo est professeur agrégé de lettres modernes. Il a enseigné à l’université Michel de Montaigne (Bordeaux 3) et à l’université de Strasbourg en tant qu’allocataire-moniteur et ATER entre 2003 et 2010. Il est actuellement élève conservateur d’État à l’École nationale supérieure des sciences de l’information et des bibliothèques (ENSSIB, France). Il a soutenu en 2007 une thèse sur le cosmopolitisme dans la littérature française de la première moitié du XXe siècle, qui a été publiée en décembre 2009 aux éditions Droz sous le titre Le Cosmopolitisme dans la littérature française de Paul Bourget à Marguerite Yourcenar. Il a également écrit une quinzaine d’articles sur des auteurs comme Paul Morand, Valery Larbaud, Marguerite Yourcenar, Jean Giraudoux, Paul Claudel et Victor Margueritte. Il s’intéresse enfin aux littératures francophones d’Afrique subsaharienne et a publié des articles sur l’œuvre d’Ahmadou Kourouma, ainsi que sur les notions de francophonie et de littérature monde.
