Starting in 1921, the work of Woolf is haunted by the presence of Proust. A close analysis of both the critical essays and the autobiographical writings allows us to better understand the impact la Recherche had on the work of Woolf as a novelist, on a personal as well as a creative level, since Proust becomes the main inspiring force at work in her creative process. At the same time Woolf is drastically reevaluating the importance of Proust on the British intellectual scene of the 20s. Shared feelings, literary heritage, textual-reinvention, these seem to us the main aspects liking profoundly Woolf and Proust.
