Abstract

In a letter to Wilhelm Fliess dated 1898, Freud offers his very first commentary on a literary text. He highlights the analogy between Conrad Ferdinand Meyer’s short story Die Richterin and the family romance of his patients. One could suggest that Freud’s reading of Meyer also had repercussions for the later development of psychoanalytic theory.
