Abstract

In this article, we present a general overview of contemporary French-language comics. First, we will look at the market and market trends. Then we will look at a few key trends in the content of today’s comics. Next, we will look at international influences on French-language comics. We conclude that French-language comics have undergone significant diversification in recent years.

Pascal Lefèvre, Hogeschool Sint‐Lukas Brussel

Pascal Lefèvre (1963) enseigne à l’institut supérieur des arts flamand Hogeschool Sint‐Lukas Brussel. Il y donne des cours sur la bande dessinée et d’autres médias visuels. Il a publié, entre autres avec Jan Baetens, Pour une lecture moderne de la bande dessinée (1993) et il a rédigé Forging a New Medium, The Comic Strip in the 19th Century (1998). Actuellement, il consacre ses recherches à la production de la bande dessinée en Belgique avant Tintin.
Gert Meesters, Université de Liège

Gert Meesters (1972) est maître de conférences à l’Université de Liège. Son doctorat à la K.U.Leuven portait sur la morphologie du néerlandais. En matière de bande dessinée, ses publications concernent la critique, l’adaptation de romans, le champ de la bande dessinée néerlandophone et les avant‐gardes françaises et sud‐africaines.
