La notion de métafiction ou de métanarativité a été introduite en 1970 par William Gass et implique l’auto-observation textuelle et l’autoréflexion. Ce terme est souvent explicitement lié au postmodernisme, mais de fait la métafiction est une constante dans l’histoire du roman. Le roman contemporain a souvent recours à la métafiction, comme l’illustrent les articles dans ce dossier.
The concept of metafiction or metanarrativity has been introduced in 1970 by William Gass and implies textual self-observation and self-reflection. This notion is often explicitly related to postmodernism, but in reality metafiction is a constant factor in the history of the novel. The contemporary novel often resorts to metafiction, as the articles in this issue demonstrate.
