Abstract

This article offers a new interpretation of Michel Butor's La Modification through the concepts of the imaginary and the real. It aims to show that, in addition to an existential reading of the novel, another interpretation can be added which reveals that the actions of the existing are limited in La Modification by a confusion of choices.
