Colet Flaubert liaison writers correspondenceAbstract
The intermittent liaison (still it lasted nine years) between Louise Colet and Flaubert is the story of a misunderstanding between two people who conceived love in quite different ways (for her, the whole being had to be committed, for him, it interfered with work) and between two writers. If Louise Colet is little known today, she then enjoyed a certain reputation, which fascinated Flaubert until the roles changed and he became a severe censor and a corrector of her poems. Certainly Louise Colet has written too much in order to live by her pen, but this does not justify the oblivion into which she has fallen. She was more than the unfortunate « Muse » of Flaubert.
