Surrounded by many “minors authors” during his career, Flaubert built his authorial scenography not only as an demanding aesthetic theory but also as a hierarchy of authors and works. What is a Master ? What is a minor author ? The “gens Flaubert” used to query these essential notions when literature began to redefine, in the second half of the nineteenth century.
