This contribution aims to examine the controversy between Marot and Sagon in the 1530s. The establishment of a typology of the insults exchanged will allow us to reveal the main issue of the confrontation, which is to (re)position oneself in the literary field. Furthermore, it will address the clan-like component of the controversy, as the Marot-Sagon conflict clearly embodies a communal dimension: the authors form leagues of supporters (real or fictitious) gathered in several contemporary collective collections. It will be necessary to elucidate the various attempts at annexation – or exclusion – from a clan, and the rhetorical strategies this implies.
