The aim of this article is twofold: to build bridges between general narratology and the construction of narrative in comics, and to re-emphasize one of the minimal narrative units most neglected by research: the anecdote. Drawing on examples from contemporary production, including André Juillard’s Le Cahier bleu, it develops a poetics of the anecdote likely to account for the profound polyfunctionality of a figure that produces plot in ways that are often marginal.
