During the public debate on women’s rights after the Revolution, a recurring mythical sequence seems to emerge in the rewritings of tragedies from the period. Is this emergence coincidental, or is it linked to the political debate of the time? This article examines the myth, the modern tragedies, and a number of texts related to the debate on women’s rights.
